About UsThe South Jersey Pops is a community orchestra that provides an opportunity for musicians of all ages to express themselves musically in a relaxed, enjoyable atmosphere. We currently have 45 members from throughout the South Jersey area.

Frank Salicandro (1917-2008), lovingly referred to as “Medford’s Music Man,” founded the orchestra as the Burlington County Pops in 1967. For nearly 40 years he conducted the orchestra and provided a home for it at Culture Hall in Medford. His daughter, Gia Walton, continued conducting for him after his retirement until the baton was passed to long-time member and percussionist Sylvia Bookbinder in 2006. The Salicandro family continues to support the Pops by generously lending the orchestra music from their extensive music library.

The South Jersey Pops is now an all-volunteer, nonprofit organization which continues to add to the cultural life of the region. We are governed by an elected Board of Trustees which is led by our president, Tom Baird.

We present at least two concerts a year. Musical selections include familiar light classics, show tunes and contemporary popular music. Our concerts are held at a wheelchair accessible facility so that all area residents can attend.
