A Legacy of Community & Passion
About the South Jersey Pops

How We
Started
Frank Salicondro (1917-2008) established the South Jersey Pops in 1967, originally naming it the Burlington County Pops. Affectionately referred to as Medford’s “Music Man,” Frank made it his mission to bring music to everyone, everywhere he went. He often used the tagline “Put some music in your life” for one of his ventures, a sentiment he genuinely believed in as he walked the streets of Medford, recruiting new musicians.
For 30 years, Frank conducted the orchestra. After his tenure, a line of talented individuals succeeded him, including his daughter Gia Walton, Sylvia Bookbinder, Bob Schiavanato, and finally, Robert Bradshaw. Over the years, the orchestra has transformed from a modest ensemble performing for a small audience into a central figure in the community, consistently captivating sold-out crowds at every performance.
Where We're
Going
For more than five decades, the South Jersey Pops has been bringing people together through the power of live orchestral music. As we look toward the future, we're committed to building on that legacy—creating new opportunities for musicians to grow, expanding our reach throughout the community, and ensuring that live music remains welcoming, accessible, and inspiring for generations to come. Our vision guides where we're headed, and our mission shapes the work we do every day to get there.

VISION
We envision a thriving community where people of all ages can experience the joy of live orchestral music—whether on stage or in the audience. By fostering lifelong learning, celebrating musical excellence, and creating meaningful connections through performance, we aim to inspire the next generation of musicians and music lovers across South Jersey.

MISSION
Our mission is to provide musicians of all ages and backgrounds with opportunities to perform, learn, and grow while presenting engaging concerts that entertain, educate, and inspire audiences throughout our community. Through collaboration, creativity, and a passion for music, we strive to make every performance an experience that brings people together.

More than
Just Music
The music may bring us together, but it's the people who make us an orchestra. Every rehearsal is an opportunity to connect, collaborate, and create something meaningful alongside friends who share a common passion.

Our members encourage one another, celebrate successes on and off the stage, and foster an environment where everyone feels welcome to learn, grow, and belong. From first-time performers to seasoned musicians, every individual plays an important role in shaping who we are.
